How to choose a bathroom vanity?

Firstly, it's important to choose the right size, meaning not too small or too big. The furniture needs space so it doesn’t appear cramped in the bathroom. Standard sizes range from 24 inches to 72 inches. Next, consider the materials the vanity is made from. Often, furniture is made from particleboard, which is a poor choice because particleboard is a brittle material and not very strong.

Manufacturing Materials

We would rather choose vanities made from MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard) or even plywood, which is fairly rare because it is more expensive to manufacture. These pieces of furniture, whether made from particleboard, plywood, or MDF, are often covered with a melamine sheet, which we will call melamine MDF, offering good water resistance as well as durability over time.

The Importance of PVC Joints

It is crucial to choose a vanity with PVC joints to prevent water from easily seeping in and moisture from settling in the joints, which would cause the wood to swell. This situation would then necessitate a complete vanity replacement. Often, joints are just glued.

So, the thin part on top of the drawer will not have a PVC edge, there will only be a piece of melamine glued to that place. This provides no protection against water, and if water is present, it will get into the joint and cause the furniture to swell automatically. Vanities of this type are quite common. It’s always best to opt for a vanity that has PVC joints on all edges..

Purchasing from Reputable Dealers

Next, you should choose vanities from reputable dealers, who have been selling quality furniture for some time and offer a wide selection of colors, sizes, and materials, as well as an onsite warranty.

It's also important to select a place where you can obtain parts, where you can have a replacement countertop, hinges, and drawer slides, with a good warranty. If a one-year warranty is offered, that means the manufacturer does not have confidence in its products. Therefore, opt for a product that comes with a lifetime warranty on countertops, hinges, and drawer slides, and that parts are available in-store.

Acrylic Countertops

Regarding countertops, it is advisable to choose acrylic tops instead of gel-coated tops, because the latter tend to yellow, unlike acrylic which does not yellow. At Pure-Design, we offer a lifetime warranty on acrylic countertops, as they are extremely durable and very sturdy.

There are several other materials for countertops including quartz and glass. The advantage of acrylic is that it’s very easy to clean, and even if it gets scratched, it's possible to polish it using a car polishing compound. Therefore, it is an excellent material for countertops manufacturing.

Other Countertop Materials

There are also countertops made from laminate (Arborite) which remain a very poor choice because they are made from wood. Hence, if they absorb water, we must change the countertop. Thus, it's not a good material for a countertop.
